The GT3 was a gas turbine locomotive built in England .

history

With the GT3, an unusual design concept for a modern gas turbine locomotive was implemented for test use. The frame of the GT3 was reminiscent of a steam locomotive. The company English Electric was determined the British Railways (BR) to demonstrate the potential of this drive. For the sake of simplicity, the GT3 had a mechanical drive. It reached a top speed of 145 km / h and performed excellently during the test drives. The tensile force was 160 kN .

However, the BR had opted for electrification and dieselization and therefore had no need for turbine locomotives.

Others

The GT3 was painted brown.
