Enis Batur

Enis Batur (born June 28, 1952 in Eskişehir ) is a Turkish poet , novelist, essayist and publisher .

Enis Batur completed his education at the French-speaking Saint-Joseph-Gymnasium in Istanbul and then studied literature at universities in Istanbul, Ankara and Paris.

His first publications appeared in 1973. He was editor or co-editor of the following literary magazines: Yazı, Oluşum, MEB, Tan, Gergedan, Şehir, Sanat Dünyamız, Kitap-lık, Cogito, Arredemento Dekorasyon and Fol.

Between 1998 and 2003, Batur was a lecturer at Galatasaray University in Istanbul .

Batur is a very prolific writer. His literary work includes more than 100 titles. His volumes of poetry Kandela Kandil (Eng. "Kandela", 1981) and Sarnıç (Eng. "Cistern", 1985) were translated into German by the translator Yücel Sivri, who lives in Germany, in the early 1990s. His works have also been translated into Italian, French, Persian, Arabic, English and Romanian.

He has received several literary prizes for his poems. He also received the TDK (Turkish Language Institute) award for his essays .
