Yücel Sivri

Yücel Sivri (* 1961 in İzmit , Turkey ) is a Turkish German studies scholar , historian , writer and translator .

Life

Sivri came to West Berlin with his parents when he was eight . Since then he has lived in Berlin , only interrupted by a boarding school in Istanbul , during which he also graduated from high school. From 1981 to 1986 Sivri was a student of mathematics at the Technical University of Berlin . However, he emerged with literary translations and work for bilingual literary magazines (e.g. Parantez , Köz , Ekinti , Gezgin ). In the 1990s he also wrote for the avant-garde literary magazine Şiiratı, which appears in Istanbul . In Germany he published his first independent Turkish-language poetry book in 1985: Saatçi Parmakları Vardır Hazzın . Later he also had publications in Turkey. From 1997 to 2002 he studied German studies (focus: modern German philology) and history (focus: Greco-Roman antiquity) at the same university. Yücel Sivri received his PhD from 2008 at the TU Berlin. In addition to German, English and Turkish, he is familiar with some old languages, including a. Latin and ancient Greek. Sivri worked in the Turkish editorial team of the former Radio Multikulti as well as in the German-Turkish editorial team of the German Press Agency (DPA). Yücel Sivri writes for various magazines, newspapers and online editorial offices. Sivri was also an employee of the Hanover -based culture and society magazine Freitext .

As part of the bilingual III. Realized between the Alice Salomon University Berlin (ASH) and the Center for European Studies at Akdeniz University Antalya (AKVAM) . Forum German-Turkish Scientific Cooperation 2014 with a focus on “Diversity in Society, Health and Education”, he worked as a coordinator, interpreter and translator. In another bilateral project, he organized workshops on bilingual early childhood education in Antalya and Berlin in 2014 and 2015, and participated in the drafting of a curricular module corpus for a German-Turkish course for bilingual early education. Yücel Sivri has with the subject of studies on Central German oriental literature of the late 12th and early 13th centuries using the example of the verses Count Rudolf and Duke Ernst . A contribution to intercultural debates in the High Middle Ages , doctorate in May 2015. Sivri also writes articles and reviews on German and historical studies, including a. for the magazine for German antiquity and German literature (ZfdA) and literaturkritik.de .
