Enkomi ( Greek Έγκωμη , Turkish Tuzla ) is a town in the east of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus . In 2011 there were 2645 people.

In 1831 there were 41 adult, male Greeks in the village, as was customary at the time when the head of the household was to be determined as a priority unit. The first census carried out by the colonial power of Great Britain in 1891 counted 204 Greeks and 6 Turks in the village. While the number of Greeks increased steadily in the censuses now taking place every ten years, namely to 261 (1901), 272 (1911), 282 (1921), 326 (1931), and it jumped to 601 by 1946 by 1960 to 667, by 1973 to 822, the number of Turks sank to 1 to 2. In 1960 there were no Turks living there.

This situation was radically reversed with the civil war. After the Turkish occupation, 606 people lived in the village (1978), a number that skyrocketed to 702 by 1996 and to 1877 by 2006. There were no more Greeks among them.

The place, which has been administered by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in its Gazimağusa district since 1983, gained importance in the 19th century through the north-west excavation of a Bronze Age city , scientifically also called Enkomi . What it was called more than 3000 years ago is unknown.
