Enosi Pontion Pierias

In the course of the persecution of the Greek population in the Ottoman Empire (between 1914 and 1923), many of the people living there had to leave their homeland and move abroad or to Greece . This particularly affected the Greeks from Asia Minor and the Pontus Greeks who lived in the Black Sea region. Many refugees found a new home in Macedonia , some of them ended up in Pieria . There they make up a large part of the population. Occasionally they bought land and founded purely Pontic villages.

In order to maintain the cultural peculiarities of the Pontic Greeks, the Enosi Pontion Pierias ( Greek Ένωση Ποντιών Πιερίας "Association of Pontier Pierias") was founded in 1928 , which was registered as an association in 1932. It is Pieria's oldest association. Since June 1998 he has been a member of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts, CIOFF.
