The ensemble “the row” (spelling: Ensemble “the row” ) was founded in 1958 by Friedrich Cerha and Kurt Schwertsik in Vienna . It is one of the most traditional ensembles for new music in Europe. The name associates the twelve-tone row .

repertoire

The programs include the main chamber music works of all styles since 1900, with a focus on the maintenance of the Second Vienna School , i.e. the work of Arnold Schönberg , Alban Berg and Anton Webern , as well as all work that has been important for artistic thought since 1945.

In addition to overseeing its Viennese concert series since the early 1960s, the ensemble "the series" is a regular guest at the leading international avant-garde festivals: the Berliner Festwochen , the Holland Festival , the Warsaw Autumn , the Styrian Autumn Festival , the Biennials in Venice and Zagreb, the musica viva Munich, the Neues Werk Hamburg and at Musik der Zeit Cologne.
