Enterprise File Sync & Share

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Enterprise File Sync & Share ( EFSS ) (mutatis mutandis synchronize and company files share ) represents a category of software tools that allow the user to synchronize files and documents both at different terminals than can share with other users. EFSS systems usually use online storage in a cloud (public or private) in order to store the used data centrally and securely.

The files are accessed via standard web browsers and via device-specific software for synchronization. EFSS is also seen as a sub-discipline of ECM ( Enterprise Content Management ).

Essential functions

The essential functions of a file synchronization are offered. This includes, for example, uploading and downloading files or folders and sharing them .

While files are only transmitted from one person to one or more people in simple application scenarios, the trend is increasingly towards collaboration, i.e. teams working together on different documents. The requirements change. With a simple transmission, the main thing is to have a replacement for the e-mail system that offers more security and does not allow very large files to overflow the mailboxes. When it comes to collaboration, the issues of version management and the associated conflicts are in the foreground.

Other properties

  • Not limited to space or a specific group of people
  • Encryption of files in transit and in storage
  • Provision of an API for further integration into company processes
  • Easy handling

Operating models

EFSS systems are offered both in the cloud (public cloud) and as a corporate solution (private cloud). Company solutions are often used when there is an increased need for protection for company-relevant files. Cloud providers refer to corresponding encryption in this regard.
