Desoldering braid is an aid for loosening solder joints in electronics .

It is a band of braided copper wires, typically between 0.5 and 5 mm wide , which has been soaked in flux to improve capillary action . For desoldering, it is held on the soldering point and then heated with a soldering iron together with the solder of the soldering point. The molten tin is absorbed by the capillary action of the braided strand and thus removed from the solder joint. Without the binding solder , the component can now be easily removed from the circuit board .

Another tool for desoldering is the desoldering pump . Here the liquid tin is sucked off by negative pressure.
