The Brenay Glacier (French Glacier du Brenay ) is a valley glacier in the Valais Alps , in the south of the canton of Valais , Switzerland . It is about 5.1 km long, including the tributary glacier , an area of 8.96 km² was determined in 1995. The exposure is southwest. It is located about five kilometers east of the Lac de Mauvoisin reservoir .
The Brenay Glacier arises from two branches of almost the same size. The main glacier begins on the southern flank of the ridge between the serpentine ( 3789 m ) and the Pigne d'Arolla . It flows to the southwest parallel to Otemma Glacier , separated from it by the ridge of the portons (up to 3513 m ). To the north there is a connection with the Tsijiore-Nouve glacier via the firn-covered pass Col du Brenay ( 3639 m ) . To the west of the serpentine ridge, the Serpentine Glacier ( Glacier de la Serpentine in French ) starts on the southern flank of Mont Blanc de Cheilon . This glacier is also connected to the northeast via the Col de la Serpentine glacier pass ( 3547 m ) with the firn areas of the Tsijiore-Nouve and Cheilon glaciers . At the southern foot of the Ruinette , from which further firn fields are added, the Serpentine Glacier flows together with the Brenay Glacier. The glacier tongue currently ends at an altitude of 2575 m . This is where the Dyure du Brenay stream rises , which flows into the Dranse de Bagnes just above the Lac de Mauvoisin .
