Achaius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eochaid IV , also Achaius , ruled the Irish-Scottish Kingdom of Dalriada or just the sub-area of Kintyre from the year 781, presumably until 819/20 . (Achaius is the Latinized spelling of Eochaid ).

Life

Eochaid was a son of King Aed Find (the handsome, or white) and the father of Alpín mac Echdach . In his realm there were several castles and fortresses throughout the Highlands of Scotland. Its main seat was the Inverlochy Castle . He is the grandfather of Kenneth MacAlpin , who was jointly crowned the first King of Scotland in 843 by the Picts and Scots . At the end of the 8th century, Emperor Charlemagne sent two envoys to the Scottish King Achaius, on which the later friendship between Scotland and France is to be based.
