Epanalepsis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The epanalepsis ( Greek  ἐπανάληψις epanalepsis : resumption) is a rhetorical figure from the group of word repetitions , in which a word or a group of words at the beginning of a sentence is repeated immediately or at a distance. Due to this somewhat broad definition, there is often an overlap with other rhetorical terms. Example:

"And breathed long and breathed deeply"

In direct succession one speaks of Geminatio ( Latin "doubling").
