Epic is a privacy-oriented web browser based on the Chromium project. It is one of the first browsers from India .

History

Epic was released on August 29, 2013 and focused on protecting privacy on the internet. The first browser was first based on Google Chrome, which was released on July 15, 2010. The browser had several preinstalled extensions such as a chat client , e-mail services and a social network extension .

Functions

With the standard settings of the browser, the cookies , the history and the cache are deleted immediately after closing. The browser also contains a proxy service that is automatically activated when a search engine is used. Further functions are that the SSL connection is selected automatically or that a Do-Not-Track header is sent. In addition, a tracking and advertising blocker is already installed. Thus, this browser increases the security of privacy, in contrast to the usual browsers.

Differences to the original version (Google Chrome) :

  • Address line help and URL completion have been deactivated
  • URL checks have been disabled
  • Automatic translations are disabled
  • Page history has been disabled
  • Installation monitoring has been deactivated
  • The version numbers and unique identifiers have been removed
  • RLZ tracking number has been removed
  • The entire standard update process has been removed
  • The installation date has been removed
  • Monitoring and sending of error reports has been disabled
  • No more alternative error messages from Google
  • No more navigation errors or navigation suggestions
  • No bug reports are sent to Google

The functions in the Epic browser, for example the automatic sending of data such as search terms or installations, are also deactivated.
