Epidermis were founded in 1971 in Idstein , Hesse and played Sophisticated Rock , a type of Progressive Rock . They have been compared to Gentle Giant and the Canterbury scene , and have released several phonograms .

history

Forerunners were the Ancestors, a beat group from Idstein founded in the sixties . In 1971 they turned to more sophisticated sounds and renamed themselves Epidermis. Founding members were Rolf Lonz, who wrote almost all of the pieces, on guitar , flute and as a singer, Michael Kurz on keyboard and Reiner Neeb on drums . In the same year they moved to Wiesbaden , where they were joined as the fourth man by Wolfgang Wünsche on the electric bass . With this line-up, they recorded the pieces for an LP in the Kersten recording studio in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in 1975 , for which they could not find a label at the time. It was only subsequently published as June 1975 in 2020 . The second attempt then worked: Their LP Genius of Original Force was released in 1977 , also recorded in the Kersten studio. Model Burger from 1982 already had significant NDW shares. 1991 Feel Me was only released on CD , and after that Epidermis was over. Michael Kurz and Reiner Neeb have since passed away, Rolf Lonz is still active as a musician.
