epilator
An epilator (also known as an epilator ) is an electrical device used for mechanical hair removal . While the appearance is similar to a razor, it differs fundamentally in its functional structure. The hair is not cut off on the surface, but torn out together with the roots by means of rotating rollers.
Principle and implementation
An epilator is commonly used to remove unwanted body hair . There are different devices on the market that differ in design and quality. Sometimes extended functions are offered, such as the combination with a shaving function, cooling of the skin to avoid pain or the ability to epilate the intimate area.
The device should stand at right angles to the surface of the skin and be guided against the direction of hair growth. It is important that the skin is pulled taut during application.
Use in the genital area
Although epilators were originally developed for use on the legs, many modern devices can also be used for pubic hair removal . The pubic hair should be trimmed or shaved so that the hair that grows back can then be epilated. These should be a few millimeters long so that the epilator can grasp them. So-called all-in-one devices now also exist. These have several attachments and are therefore ideally suited for different areas of the body. Even using an epilator on the face area with a suitable device is harmless.
Advantages and disadvantages
Both advantages and disadvantages are similar to other forms of temporary epilation .
- advantages
The advantage lies in the completely smooth skin surface, in contrast to shaving, as well as the long-lasting hairlessness. The epilated areas of the skin are usually hair-free for several weeks. With the duration of the application, the hair growth also decreases and the hair becomes finer. The results of using an epilator are comparable to Brazilian waxing , but much cheaper.
- disadvantage
Many users find epilation uncomfortable or painful, especially in the armpit and genital area. Another problem can be with ingrown hair. This can be counteracted by regular peeling .
