Epiphonus

The epiphonus (a Latin made-up word from the two Greek words epi and phone for over -tone ) is a neume in the notation of Gregorian chant and represents the liquescensored form of the pes .

In the square notation of the epiphonus, the last punctum is set as a key note . In the manuscripts, the lines at the end of the group neum are shortened.
