Episode polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The episode polka is a polka french by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 296). The work was performed for the first time on February 20, 1865 in the Redouten Hall of the Vienna Hofburg .

Remarks

Despite some health problems, Johann Strauss wrote this polka for the student ball in Mardi Gras in 1865. On the occasion of this event, the work was then premiered under the name Tanz-Episoden in the Vienna Hofburg. It only got its current name with the publication of the print version. The polka was dedicated to the organizing committee of the ball. Later it was somewhat forgotten and was rarely performed, if at all. This was also due to the fact that the composer's many compositions sometimes displaced each other from the concert schedule. There was simply an oversupply of such works. When Antal Doráti put together his ballet Graduation Ball based on motifs by Johann Strauss (son) in 1939 , he also used this polka and built it into this work.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 4 minutes and 49 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
