Epitaph for Cardinal Faulhaber in the Frauenkirche in Munich

The epitaph for Cardinal Faulhaber is a memorial plaque for the Munich Archbishop Michael Cardinal von Faulhaber (1869–1952) in the Munich Frauenkirche , in whose crypt he was also buried. Today it is located on the fourth southern pillar opposite the baptistery. The panel was created in 1946 by the sculptor Theodor Georgii. The epitaph is one of his most characteristic works.

history

Georgii created his first epitaph in 1939/40. It was kept in a vaulted chamber under the choir of the Frauenkirche in Munich. When air attacks on the church, the factory was completely destroyed. In 1948 Faulhaber commissioned Georgii to restore the grave plaque, which Georgii completed in 1950. After Faulhaber's death in June 1952, it was attached to a pillar in the Frauenkirche in Munich.
