Epithelial wound healing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In addition to primary and secondary wound healing , epithelial wound healing is one of the three types of wound healing within which it occupies a special position, as it is rapid and uncomplicated and sometimes with scabs due to the high regenerative power that the surface epithelia have for a lifetime takes place.

Epithelial wound healing takes place in superficial wounds, such as sunburn , abrasion or at split-skin removal sites. The prerequisite for epithelial wound healing is that only the epidermis is affected by an injury , while deeper tissue structures are damaged in primary and secondary healing wounds. When such wounds heal, the tissue is repaired . In contrast, the process of epithelial wound healing is regenerative. The healing proceeds with the restoration of the destroyed tissue and is free of scars. During epithelial wound healing neither granulation tissue nor contraction of the wound occurs. It happens solely through epithelialization and is completed after a few days.
