The Erdenet Mining Corporation ( Mongolian Эрдэнэт үйлдвэр ) is a mining company in the Mongolian city of Erdenet .
history
The Russian-Mongolian joint venture was founded in 1975. Geological field studies began in the late 1950s.
From the early 1960s, a national geological organization began to actively cooperate with the geological institutions of the European socialist countries. A first joint Czech-Mongolian geological expedition was undertaken in Mongolia in 1962. Today (2012) the company operates the fourth largest copper mine in the world. The open pit accounts for the main part of the Mongolian export volume and tax revenue. For a long time only copper concentrate was exported, since 2005 the plant has also been able to produce pure copper.
Promotion and production
The company also mines molybdenum and produces construction machinery and conveyor technology.
