Erdeni (born February 21, 1999 in Ireland ) is a racehorse owned by the Swiss veterinarian Michael Schmid and his wife, the lawyer Saskia Schmid. The bay gelding has won numerous cross-country, flat and hurdle races and is the best cross-country steed in Switzerland in 2007.
He was born in Ireland in the stud of the international horse breeder Aga Khan. It was bought by the Schmid family on November 30, 2003 after a sales race. From that moment on he was trained by Michael Schmid himself and successfully ran races in Switzerland. Under jockey Claudia Wendel, Erdeni won the Möbel Tino AG Prize on October 24, 2004 in Frauenfeld, under jockey Chantal Zollet in the Thurella's Rittergold Grand Prize on June 5, 2006 in Frauenfeld and in the 50,000 Swiss franc cross-GP in Maienfeld on June 14 October 2007. On September 28th, 2008 he finished second in the Swiss GP in Aarau.
On October 26th, 2008 Erdeni ran his last race in Frauenfeld. In the Grand Prix of the Berenbergbank - a cross-country - Erdeni won one last time under jockey Chantal Zollet in front of the enthusiastic Frauenfeld racing audience, and was then officially bid farewell to racing. In his career, he has won a total of 14 races and, together, won prize money of over 200,000 Swiss francs. Of the 10 cross-countries that he competed in total, he won 7, finished second in 2, and only dropped out once when he was forced out of the race by another horse.
