The earth symbol at Munich Airport is an earth sculpture by the painter Wilhelm Holderied and the sculptor Karl Schlamminger. The work of art is also called An Island for Time . According to Holderied, it should be a symbol for the passage of time determined by the “primal force of the earth”.

The earth sculpture, completed in 1995, is in the tradition of archaic floor paintings as well as works of land art and evokes associations with Smithson's famous Spiral Jetty .
The earth sculpture has an area of 270 m × 170 m and a furrow depth of 3.40 m. Furrows and high banks of gravel encircle a point, run out in a straight band, form a loop and then flow in irregular wavy lines into the surrounding meadows, where they end in a straight line.
In a “Be-Part-of-Art” campaign, the work of art was financed by around 400 sponsors. The aerial photograph archaeologist Klaus Leidorf has been documenting the work of art and its changes in the vicissitudes of nature and the seasons since 1994 .
The city of Freising has now approved the earth sign until 2023.
