Selbitz is a district of the city of Kemberg in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt .

Selbitz is located about 12 km southwest of Lutherstadt Wittenberg on the edge of the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve .
history
Selbitz was first mentioned in a document as Slewitz in 1388 .
Due to its location on the edge of the Elbe meadows, Selbitz, like the surrounding villages of Seegrehna , Bergwitz and Rehsen , was severely affected by the Elbe floods in 2002 .
On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipality of Selbitz was incorporated into the city of Kemberg together with the municipalities of Dabrun , Eutzsch , Rackith , Radis , Rotta , Schleesen , Uthausen and Wartenburg . At the same time, the administrative community Kemberg , to which Selbitz belonged, was dissolved.

Culture and sights
Once a year the village festival, the so-called “hay festival”, takes place in Selbitz, and the residents decorate the village with straw dolls and the garden harvest. The Easter bonfire takes place every year before Easter .

Selbitz is close to the B100 . The town is about 10 km away from the B 107 , which connects Graefenhainichen and Coswig . The closest Deutsche Bahn stop is in the neighboring town of Bergwitz , where the RB and RE stop. The next IC or ICE stop is in Wittenberg. In addition, there is a connection to places in the area by buses, which are mainly used for school transport.

The local day care center “ Buratino ” was rebuilt after the Elbe floods in 2002 and renamed “ Pinocchio ”. She looks after 28 children until they enter 5th grade.

The largest farm in town is the Landwirtschaftsbetrieb eG Selbitz, which emerged from the LPG Selbitz after the fall of the Wall . The focus of the company includes grain, fodder and sugar beet production, dairy farming and sows with piglet production. The company uses the resulting biomass to produce biogas.
