Refreshment sticks are elongated, about five centimeters long Schokoladenstäbchen , for example, with a flavored lemon - and oranges - syrup are filled. They were first produced by Sprengel in Hanover in the 1930s .

Refreshment sticks consist mainly of sugar, water, a chocolate coating and flavorings. They should be eaten chilled. Today, refreshment sticks are available under the De Beukelaer brand or various commercial brands, including Sprengel .
