A convalescent home is an accommodation facility owned by the public sector or private associations , cooperatives or foundations , which differs from the usual accommodation facility ( hotel ) in that it is usually only open to persons or groups who have previously registered.

Rest homes are used for medical or professional rehabilitation to contribute preventively or after-care to medical care and (or) to enable a change of location.
