The Eric-Kandel-Gymnasium is a high school in Ahrensburg . The former grammar school Am Heimgarten was renamed in 2015 after the Nobel Prize winner Eric Kandel . Together with the community school Am Heimgarten , the Eric-Kandel-Gymnasium forms the school center Am Heimgarten .

history

In August 1973 the grammar school was founded in the school center at Heimgarten together with a secondary school and a secondary school. The Eric-Kandel-Gymnasium has been recognized as a UNESCO project school since 1993 . In 2004 a larger extension was added to accommodate the increasing number of students at both schools.

To avoid confusion between high school and community school, the name was changed in March 2015. After numerous names were considered, the college decided on the name of Nobel Prize winner Eric Kandel. This proposal was confirmed by the school conference. Since Kandel was named after someone who is still alive and teaches at Columbia University in New York, he was invited to the official ceremony in September 2015 to get to know "his" school.
