Eric C. Hiscock

Eric C. Hiscock (born March 14, 1908 , † September 15, 1986 in Whangarei ) was a multiple circumnavigator and book author.

Life

He was born on March 14th 1908 and died on September 15th 1986 on his ship Wanderer V in Whangarei / New Zealand. His wife Susan lived on the ship for a while until she went back to England.

Sailing achievements

From July 1952 to July 1955 and again from July 1959 to August 1962, the Hiscocks sailed westward with Wanderer III around the world. In 1968 the Hiscocks sold their house and land on the Isle of Wight (England) in order to only sail from then on. From May 1974 to September 1976 they sailed eastwards around the globe on the Wanderer IV .

Works

The book “Sailing in Coastal Waters” was published in 1962 and is still considered an indispensable standard work for classic cruising sailors. It covers the topics of boat building, rigging, furnishings and equipment, as well as practical seamanship and navigation, and gives many useful tips.
