Eric Sharp, Baron Sharp of Grimsdyke

Eric Sharp, Baron Sharp of Grimsdyke Kt CBE (born August 17, 1916 in London , † May 2, 1994 ibid) was a British businessman and member of the House of Lords .

Career

Eric Sharp was a Principal in the Ministry of Power in 1948 . He represented Great Britain on the coal and petroleum committees of the Organization for European Economic Co-operation (OEEC) from 1948-50 . He was vice-chairman of the OEEC Electricity Committee from 1951–54. From 1955–56 he was secretary of the Herbert Committee for the inquiry on the electricity supply industry. 1957-64 he was Marketing Manager at British Nylon Spinners Ltd. 1964–68 he was Director of ICI Fibers Ltd. He was a board member of Monsanto Europe in 1969 and a member of its management board from 1970–72, and from 1973–74 he was deputy chairman of Monsanto Ltd. and 1975-81 Chairman. In 1980 he became CBE . 1980–90 he was Chairman of Cable & Wireless plc and 1981–90 its Chief Executive.

In 1984 he was promoted to Knight Bachelor and in 1989 as Baron Sharp of Grimsdyke , of Stanmore in the London Borough of Harrow, raised to the nobility . He thereby became a member of the House of Lords .

He married Marion Freeman in 1950 and had a son, a daughter and a deceased daughter with her.
