Erich Farthofer

Erich Farthofer (born April 27, 1951 in Wiehalm ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and federal railway employee . From 1986 to 1999 he was a member of the Federal Council , from 1995 to 1996 a member of the European Parliament and from 1999 to 2003 a member of the state parliament of Lower Austria .

Life

After attending compulsory school, Farthofer completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter and passed the master craftsman examination. He worked as a locomotive driver and was involved from 1980 to 1990 as the district operations manager for Volkshilfe. In terms of local politics, he was active as the managing councilor in Schwarzenau from 1980 , and between 1990 and 1995 he was a councilor. He was also chairman of the SPÖ district party from 1983 and councilor of the Lower Austria Chamber of Labor from 1990. He was also involved as a board member of Volkshilfe Niederösterreich. Farthofer represented the SPÖ from May 15, 1986 to June 21, 1999 in the Federal Council, was a member of the European Parliament from January 1, 1995 to November 11, 1996, and then from June 21, 1999 to April 24, 2003, a member of the Lower Austrian Parliament Parliament.
