Erich Haider (born January 13, 1957 in Ried in der Riedmark ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

After attending secondary school, Erich Haider studied computer science at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz . In 1977 he became organizational officer of the SPÖ Upper Austria, 1983 SPÖ district party secretary in Linz , two years later municipal council in Linz. Furthermore, from 1986 to 1992 he was on the supervisory board of the Linz ESG (today Linz AG ) and the LiWeSt cable TV company .

On February 26, 1997 he became a member of the Upper Austrian provincial government (agendas: housing, nature and animal protection, traffic). On May 11, 2000 he became Deputy Governor of Upper Austria. After his election defeat in the state elections in Upper Austria in 2009 , he announced his resignation as state party chairman and member of the government. He returned to his previous employer, Linz AG . There he held the newly created post of Linz Linien Managing Director, and since 2013 he has been General Director of LINZ AG.

Erich Haider is a member of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe and is currently chairman of the Committee on Social Cohesion of the Chamber of Regions.

In addition, Erich Haider was regional chairman of the BSA Upper Austria until 2010 .
