Erich Poppe

Erich Poppe (born July 26, 1951 ) is a German Celtologist and professor at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Life

Poppe received his doctorate in 1980 and his habilitation in 1989 . Between 1991 and 1995 he worked as a lecturer at Cambridge University . Since 1995 he has held a professorship for Celtology at the University of Marburg . In 2009 he was awarded the Vernam Hull Memorial Prize together with Regine Reck for his book Selections from Ystorya Bown o Hamtwn .

On the occasion of his 60th birthday in 2011, former and current students dedicated a commemorative publication to him.

Poppe's work focuses on the medieval Celtic languages ​​and cultures.
