The commemorative mark for services to fire extinguishing was donated on October 21, 1932 by the Senate of the Free City of Danzig .

It could be awarded to people after 25 years of meritorious work in fire extinguishing in an organized fire brigade in the city or before the end of this time for outstanding achievements in the interest of fire extinguishing.

The award is a round badge made of gold-plated bronze . It shows the city's coat of arms in the center of the medallion with the inscription FREIE STADT DANZIG . The medallion is underlaid by two crossed fire brigade axes and is surmounted by a fire brigade helmet . All around the horizontal inscription DEVICE FOR THE FIRE DEFENSE .

The decoration was worn as a pin badge on the left chest.
