Erkki Hartikainen

Erkki Hartikainen (* 1942 ) is a Finnish atheist . He is chairman of the Finnish atheist association Suomen Ateistiyhdistys .

Life

Hartikainen received his Master of Science degree from Helsinki University in 1967 . Since 1985 he has been chairman of Suomen Ateistiyhdistys. For many years he was chairman of the important Finnish freethinker association Vapaa-ajattelijain liitto and editor-in-chief of its magazine Vapaa Ajattelija . He worked with Madalyn Murray O'Hair .

In 1978 Hartikainen ensured, through the UN Human Rights Committee , that the subject of "uskontojen historia ja siveysoppi" (history of religions and ethics) was removed from the curriculum of Finnish schools.

In addition to his involvement in Finland, Hartikainen was in regular contact with other foreign atheist activists. In the 1980s he contributed the content of non- religious ethics teaching ("elämänkatsomustieto"). A planned publication via SanomaWSOY was canceled. Today the material is freely available on the Internet.
