Church of the Savior Transfiguration (Oral)

The Church of the Savior Transfiguration ( Russian Спасо-Преображенский храм ) is a Russian Orthodox church in the western Kazakh city ​​of Oral . It is located in the north of the city in a former cemetery . The church was built between 1887 and 1888 with the help of private donations.

The Church of the Savior Transfiguration was made possible by private donations and the care of the police chief of Oral, the then priest and now an honorary citizen of the city. The foundation stone for the construction of the new cemetery church was laid in June 1887. After almost a year of construction, the church was inaugurated on July 31, 1888 by the Bishop of Orenburg and Oral.

A memorial to the soldiers from Oral who died in World War II was erected near the church in 1950 . The cemetery, which was founded in the middle of the 19th century, has been closed since 1985.

The church building has the shape of a central building with a bell tower . Extensions were added to the central part in the middle of the 20th century. The central part is closed at the top by a dome , at the four corners there are further four small turrets with domes. On all domes there are Russian crosses , the symbols of the Russian Orthodox Church. The facade is decorated with paintings. Above the entrance there is a picture of the transfiguration of the Lord and to the right and left of it are depicted Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary .
