Redeemer Chapel (Biburg)
The Erlöserkapelle is a small chapel in Biburg in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim . It was conceived by the artist Angerer the Elder as a total work of art consisting of architecture, sculpture and painting. The chapel was built from 1996. In 2000, the Chapel of the Redeemer was ecumenically inaugurated with four bishops from different denominations . This is intended to express the non-denominational character of church building. Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger , then Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome, wrote a handwritten greeting for the consecration of the chapel.
A special architectural feature is a slanted tube into the light, which is closed by a lead glass window in a small dome and is intended to bring the viewer closer to a cosmic spiritual experience. The light inside the chapel is particularly impressive around noon, especially on sunny days. The arched, glazed portal on the north side has a wrought iron grille adorned with a gold-colored cross. It is flanked by two trumpet angels carved in stone , which are located at the transition to the gable roof .
