Ermag

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ermag was a company and motorcycle brand based in Erlangen from 1923 to 1932.

The company was founded on September 10, 1923 by Karl Zirkel, Albert Roder and Hans Siebenkees.

In 1923, the 250 were cc - two stroke engines with differential piston, rotary vane and compressor under the brand EMAG (for Erlanger motors Stock Company ) sold before 1924 then the name EMAG was used. This unusual construction came from the pen of Albert Roder , the designer a. a. the Ziro and later the NSU Max .

As a co-owner of the company, Roder constructed an overhead four - stroke machine with a displacement of 250 cm³ in 1925 , which was offered as a normal road machine. This four-stroke had hairpin valve springs for speeds beyond the 5000 mark and developed an astonishing 12 hp for the time  . It was practically a racing engine, and it has had many successes in racing too. So was Hans Hieronymus when Feldbergrennen reach all running machines the fastest time, although machines were up to 1000 cc capacity at the start.

In addition to this sports machine, a side-controlled 497 cm³ touring machine was offered from 1925. This motorcycle was ideally suited for use in trailer operation.

The small company's business was excellent in the years that followed, and the company wanted to expand production. The banks blocked themselves, however, probably caused by many bankruptcies in the industry at that time. Albert Roder saw no future at Ermag and left the plant at the age of 32.

The motorcycle production continued, but only the existing 500 cm³ engine stocks were used up. Then Swiss MAG motors were installed, initially on the side, but from 1930 alternately controlled versions in small numbers. More and more was only made to individual orders, and in 1932 the gates were completely closed.
