Ermanno Chiavi

Ermanno Chiavi (born February 4, 1956 in Poschiavo , Graubünden ) is a Swiss guitar maker . Together with Anders Miolin, he is considered the inventor of the 13-string guitar. He is the recipient of the Bündner Kulturpreis. In addition to his work as a guitar maker, he played a key role in research projects at various Swiss universities for the physical analysis of musical instruments.

Life

Ermanno Chiavi initially obtained his teaching license in Chur in 1977. From 1985 to 1989 he learned the profession of guitar maker with Gerold Karl Hannabach and Margarethe Brunswicker. In addition, he received lessons from Jose Romanillos, among various other influences.

In 1985 he first opened a guitar making workshop on Badenerstrasse in Zurich, which he moved to the Zurich Maag site in 1992. Since 2010 he has been making various string instruments on Hermetschloostrasse in Zurich.
