Hermitage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ermitage is a Valais AOC -certified white wine made from Marsanne blanche and / or Roussanne grapes . They are considered the traditional white grape variety of Valais. The term “Ermitage” together with the term “AOC Wallis” is considered to be “ Ermitage du Valais ”.

The Marsanne and the Roussanne came to the Swiss Rhone Valley in the course of the 19th century . The strong varieties of the white twins develop their potential in the best Valais locations with dry soils and strict quantity restrictions. Certain vintages allow late harvest. The Ermitage also offers a rich body as a sweet wine . No matter if dry or sweet; the hermitage needs a few years of maturity, because its harmony becomes more and more expressive with the years. It is usually matured in oak barrels.
