Ernest Cahen

Ernest Cahen (born August 18, 1828 in Paris , † November 8, 1893 there ) was a French organist and composer .

Cahen studied at the Paris Conservatory and won the Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1849 ; a first prize was not awarded this year. He then worked as an organist at the Merklin organ of the Great Synagogue in the Rue de la Victoire and at the Cavaillé-Coll organ in the Synagogue of the Rue Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth .

Cohen composed several operettas, including Le Calfat (1858) and Le souper de Mezzelin (1859), both of which premiered at the Théâtre des Folies-Nouvelles .
