The Hamburg Renewable Energy Sector Network is a network for strengthening and promoting cooperation in the development of renewable energy based in Hamburg .

founding

The network was founded in January 2011 by the Association for the Promotion of the Renewable Energy Cluster Hamburg and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. It now has 190 members, mostly companies, institutions and research facilities.

aims

The network is intended to promote dialogue between industrial and service companies and support interregional and international cooperation. In October 2012, the association joined the newly established offshore wind industry alliance based in Berlin.

background

The importance of this industry becomes clear when you consider that in 2011 global investment in the renewable energy industry increased by 17 percent to 257 billion US dollars. In Germany in particular, high investments are expected in order to achieve the target of 20,000 MW of wind power in the offshore wind industry by 2020.

Around 25,000 people work in companies in the regenerative energy industry in this region. This includes the industry with the plant and component manufacturers, engineering offices for the design and project planning work to the companies that take on the construction of the plants on site and the installation and maintenance work. Service companies such as consulting, certification, financing, insurance and logistics as well as energy supply companies are also involved. Against the background of the young and currently rapidly growing production facilities, the logistics and infrastructure of offshore wind power, which is mainly concentrated on the coastal countries, it becomes clear how important information and cooperation are.
