description

The tomb of Ianna Ventosa is the best known as it is one of the rare architectural chimeras. The combination of an artificial cave with a pre-built passage is unique.

The artificial cave excavated by Alba Foschi Nieddu in 1985 is at the end of a megalithic corridor. The south-west oriented corridor consists of two parallel walls with horizontal cap stones. The entrance with a trapezoidal threshold stone leads into a rectangular room with smooth walls. On the floor there is a ritual fireplace and an oval pit. The coaxial cell has two side banks about 0.8 m high. Traces of red plaster and some niches are along the short sides.

The multi-cell grave Maria Frunza I has an irregular floor plan. A small anteroom leads into a 2.7 m wide rectangular room with rounded corners. A decentralized entrance leads to a 3.8 m wide cell with a square 1.55 m large side chamber.

Maria Frunza II has an L-shaped floor plan. The 1.65 m wide and 1.1 m high antechamber leads to the central, irregularly square cell with a width of 1.45 and a height of 1.25 m. A third cell is about 0.30 m higher, is square (1.8 m) and 0.9 m high.

Maria Frunza III was converted into a refuge during the war.

Maria Frunza IV consists of an entrance hall leading to two trapezoidal coaxial cells. The walls have traces of red paint.

Nearby are the Domus de Janas of Birghines
