The Ernst Thälmann Monument in Schwarze Pump ( Spremberg ) is a memorial that the Cottbus sculptor Heinz Mamat created in memory of Ernst Thälmann . It shows Thälmann with companions on a 6 square meter relief made of red artificial stone . The work of art has a separate relief in a flag block on a concrete base. The entire structure is on the site of the former company vocational school (BBS) "Ernst Thälmann" of the VEB Gaskombinat Schwarze Pump , which is now part of the Schwarze Pump industrial park . The inauguration took place in 1979. On the occasion of the naming, Irma Thälmann spoke to the assembled apprentices and teachers.

The monument was commissioned by VEB Gaskombinat Schwarze Pump in October 1978 as part of the establishment of the vocational school. The 1: 1 plaster model was approved in March 1979. In May of that year, the design of the outdoor facilities was coordinated with the artist. The sculptures themselves were made in the Cottbus studio and transported to Schwarze Pumpe for assembly. The foundations and bases were made by the company vocational school. The inauguration was planned for September 15, 1979.

Initiated by the owner, an inspection took place together with the artist in 1985 to remove deposits and prevent water from penetrating the work of art.

description

The memorial in the school yard is surrounded by the gym, the school buildings and the training workshop. The site has since been redesigned by the current owner. The green spaces and the former school yard have given way to a parking lot and a meadow.

The 2 × 3 meter relief shows Thälmann with clenched fists in the middle and three of his colleagues. The first draft executed as an act by Heinz Mamat did not appeal to the political leadership. In the final version, the figures are partially covered.

Currently (as of 3/2019) the monument is weathered and Thälmann's head is missing. The steel reinforcement of the concrete wall can be seen through the penetrated water and the paint of the concrete base is peeling off. The relief in the flag block is in better condition.
