Ernst Ackermann (statistician)

Ernst Ackermann (born September 11, 1886 in Hefenhofen , † January 14, 1978 in Zurich ) was a Swiss statistician .

Life

Ernst Ackermann was born on September 11, 1886 as the son of the miller Johannes Ackermann in Hefenhofen. From 1905 to 1914 Ackermann studied chemistry , physics and mathematics , and later constitutional law and economics in Geneva and Basel . From 1914 to 1920 he headed the statistical department of the Société suisse de surveillance économique . He then acted from 1920 to 1942 as head of the statistical office and from 1942 to 1952 as director of the economic and statistical department of the Swiss National Bank in Zurich. In addition, he held the office of President of the Federal Commission for Economic Monitoring for 20 years and of the Social Statistics Commission from 1948 to 1956. He also acted from 1948 to 1956 as vice-president of the salary appraisal commission. Ackermann made great contributions to the economic , especially banking statistics.

Ernst Ackermann, who married the kindergarten teacher Margrete Maria (née Kohler) in 1910 , died on January 14, 1978 at the age of 91 in Zurich.
