Ernst Bierei

Ernst Hugo Bierei (born May 9, 1882 in Kerspleben , † after 1958) was a German agricultural scientist.

Life

Ernst Bierei studied agriculture at the University of Jena after graduating from high school in Erfurt. In 1900 he became a member of the Corps Agronomia Jenensis. After the agricultural diploma examination, he went to the University of Bern in the winter semester of 1908/09 , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate. Initially a scientific assistant at Friedrich Aereboe , he became a manor owner and a practical farmer. From 1926 to 1930 he was the first director and lecturer for agricultural management at the Albrecht Thaer seminar in Celle. Then he was director of the Thünen Institute in Rostock.

Bierei wrote numerous publications on agricultural topics. In the two-volume work “Handbuch der Pflanzenernahrung und Düngerlehre” published by Franz Honcamp in 1931, which was the authoritative standard work of agricultural plant chemistry for almost thirty years, he wrote the chapter “The application of artificial fertilizers” and six chapters on fertilizing agricultural crops.
