Ernst Christian Dziobek (also Dziobeck, Dziobek I or Dziobeck I, * 1795 in Lyck , † April 26, 1845 Cologne ) was an engineer officer in the Prussian Army and a military writer .

Life

The son of cantor Johann Christian Dziobek and Carolina Julie Breitenberg was born in 1795 into poor conditions. After his father's suicide in 1810, he joined the Prussian army around 1811, where he was promoted to captain 2nd class by 1820. In the following year Dziobek was posted to Cologne, where he may have worked as an engineer on the fortress construction. Here he married Philippina Schmitz on November 20, 1823, the first child was born in 1824, and three more followed by 1828. On September 29, 1828 Ernst Dziobek was transferred to Koblenz , where he served as 1st Adjutant to Lieutenant General Ernst Ludwig Aster , who at that time was in command of the Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein Fortresses . After he was released from this post on April 29, 1836 and transferred back to Cologne as captain 1st class for the 3rd engineer inspection, he completed his fortification service here until 1841. Presumably for reasons of illness, Dziobek submitted his departure that year, which was approved on October 30th. The retired Major Ernst Christian Dziobek died on April 26, 1845 in Cologne at the age of 49.

Acting as a military writer

Dziobek's first known font was written during his time in Cologne, where he worked out a war and fortification history of the city of Cologne on the Rhine until 1826 . After moving to Koblenz, he wrote a war and fortification history of Coblenz and Ehrenbreitstein from 1830 to 1834 , in which he describes the various city fortifications from the Roman period to 1834, the year the fortress was completed. After retiring from active service, Dziobek published various articles on military topics until his death. In 1844 the most important work was the paperback for the Prussian engineer. A collection of notes for use in war and peace at Karl Baedeker in Koblenz (a second edition appeared posthumously in 1853). The book dedicated to Ernst Ludwig Aster was discussed very positively in the Leipzig revision course on German and foreign literature on June 14, 1844. A revised excerpt of his war and fortification history of Coblenz and Ehrenbreitstein was published in 1845 under the name M. Dziobek in the journal Archive for the Officers of the Royal Prussian Artillery and Engineer Corps . The "5th period" of his fortification history of Koblenz, Coblenz u. Ehrenbreitstein under Prussia. Rule 1814-1834 , was continued by the military until 1905. Today, both parts represent a detailed and valuable source of the building history of the Koblenz Fortress.
