Ernst Hold

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ernst Hold (* 18th century ; † 19th century ) is probably the pseudonym of a German-speaking children's and youth author whose books were mainly published in the J. C. Hinrichs publishing house in Leipzig from 1812 to around 1844 . Pseudonyms of this kind often appeared in educational children's literature at that time, as the names Julius Freudenreich, Hans Kindermann, Heinrich Gutmann, Reimerich Kinderlieb and Aunt Amalia prove.

Hold must have been a popular author in his day, as most of his books had multiple editions . Often the author's concern is already clear in the title of the short stories and poems. So the reader encounters the compassionate children, the two friends, the happy children, the lost children or he learns something about the elephant, God's care, work, the philanthropist or the sower. Patterns for childlike behavior, but also for wise instruction, were given in easily understandable language.
