Ergenekon investigation

The 14th Serious Criminal Court arrested Manisalı on April 13, 2009 as part of the 12th wave of arrests in the Ergenekon investigation. Manisalı told the court, in connection with the evidence, that an attempt would be made to accuse him. There is also a children's drawing among the confiscated documents. Furthermore, he was asked about a person entered in his address book who he could no longer remember because the entry was many years ago, and furthermore they would pretend that events from 2008 had already happened in 2004. He also criticized the fact that private conversations at various past dinners were presented as if he had reported on very serious meetings. In his defense, Manisalı said that one of the reasons he could not understand the indictment was because he had campaigned for democracy in his books and at conferences throughout his life and had made negative comments about coups in many of his writings. He also spoke to Bülent Ecevit , Süleyman Demirel , Turgut Özal , Mesut Yılmaz , Tansu Çiller and Abdullah Gül about his attitudes to these issues in the recent past . He also expressed his love for democracy at his worldwide conferences and lectures, also held at the Turkish parties AKP , CHP , MHP and DSP .

Manisalı was released from the maximum security prison in Silivri after he became ill with cancer and was diagnosed with an increased risk of stroke.

On August 5, 2013, Manisalı was sentenced to 9 years and 8 months imprisonment by the 13th Istanbul Grand Criminal Chamber in the Ergenekon Trial. All judgments in the Ergenekon trial were overturned in 2016.
