Substitute currency
The term substitute currency usually refers to money or goods with the character of money that are generally accepted as a means of payment in an economic area . It competes with the state-prescribed currency when it is no longer trusted. The substitute currencies are freely convertible currencies from other countries or goods such as cigarettes , cowries or similar.
In another meaning, the term substitute currency stands for an emergency currency that is issued by the state in the event of a crisis.
