Remarks

The waltz First Thought was played by six-year-old Johann Strauss in 1831 at the piano in a domestic setting. It is considered to be his first waltz. According to family tradition, the mother, Johanna Strauss, wrote down the notes. Decades later, Strauss produced an orchestral version that was premiered on March 22, 1882 at a charity concert for needy Viennese children. The scores for this orchestral version were later lost. The CD recording mentioned below is based on a reconstruction based on the still existing piano reduction by Michael Rot.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 47 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
