The Braunschweig District Association of the VDE annually awards the Erwin Marx Prize to the most successful graduates of the TU Braunschweig and the FH Braunschweig / Wolfenbüttel . The namesake Erwin Otto Marx , who is known worldwide as the inventor of the multiplier circuit for generating high voltage pulses, was among other things State Commissioner of the technical center in Wolfenbüttel, today's University of Applied Sciences Braunschweig / Wolfenbüttel, professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig and a founding member of the forerunner of the VDE district association Braunschweig.

The VDE has chosen this electrical engineering pioneer as a godparent to inspire young people for technology and in particular for electrical engineering and electronics and to win them over to these fields of study.
