The Erwin-Hymer-Museum is a "Museum of Mobile Travel" opened on October 29, 2011 . It is located in Bad Waldsee in the Ravensburg district in Upper Swabia .

museum

The museum is located north of Bad Waldsee on the B 30 opposite the works of the motorhome manufacturer Hymer . It includes a permanent exhibition on 6000 m² and changing special exhibitions on 1000 m². Furthermore, there is a restaurant and conference facility within the museum. The two-story museum hall is 19 meters high and both 60 meters long and 60 meters deep. Another one-story hall is 75 meters long, 50 meters deep and 11 meters high. The Erwin Hymer Foundation estimated the total construction costs for the museum to be 17 million euros.

The focus of the exhibition is on 80 historic caravans , motorhomes , cars and two-wheelers. In the exhibition, visitors can learn about the travel destinations of these sometimes exotic vehicles , but also about their design, development and production. These include Hymer's own productions, but also numerous almost forgotten manufacturers, such as Sportberger's Wanderiere or the L6 Land-Yacht . In addition to the almost exclusively original models, replicas of which the original vehicle no longer exists, such as the Dethleffs Wohnauto - the first caravan designed and built in Germany from 1931, will also be shown.

Awards
